Peru Travel News: New Cusco to Puno Bus Route by Cruz del Sur

March 18, 2013

Getting around in Peru is becoming a whole lot easier with a new Cusco to Puno bus route by Cruz del Sur, one of Peru’s leading bus companies. Paul Jones, a contributor to our Cusco guide takes a closer look.

Peru has a really high standard of bus travel and getting to and from most major cities is a comfortable and even a potentially enjoyable experience. Although air travel is still a preferred method for longer distances (like Lima to Cusco), bus travel can be an inexpensive and great way to get around not only for the pack-packer market but also higher-end travelers.

One of the most popular journeys is the Cusco to Puno bus route, connecting the Inca heartland with the ancient and mystical cultures of Lake Titicaca.

Now, Cruz del Sur, one of Peru’s leading bus companies has launched 2 daily services along this route (2 in each direction). The service which is due to start operation from April 24, 2012 is a non-stop service.

Cruz del Sur offer an enormous fleet of modern double decker luxury coaches, that include GPS tracking, an on-board attendant and even a free WiFi connection. The Cusco to Puno bus route will have two cabin class options available: Semi-cama (half bed) and Sofa-cama (sofa bed). The Sofa-cama class is highly recommended and offers fully reclining extra wide leather seating. All coaches are fully air-conditioned, and include a snack and drink on-route. Drivers are regularly breath tested for alcohol and all buses are monitored for speeding violations (by the GPS tracking).
