Arriving in Cusco by Air
Cusco airport is located 10 minutes from the colonial center, and receives daily flights from Lima, Arequipa, Puerto Maldonado and Juliaca (Puno / Lake Titicaca). There are no direct international flights to Cusco, and most international flights arrive into Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima (LIM). There are also several flights per week direct from La Paz in Bolivia, schedules change depending on the season. The airport is operational from 07.00 hrs until 15.30 hrs, depending on the flight schedules.
Bad Weather
Often during the rainy season (November – Mid April) flights are often disrupted by bad weather conditions, and it is advised that early morning flights are preferential over afternoon flights, allowing time for the weather to clear or re-programming of flights.
Airport Taxis and Prices
To-date there are no official airport taxis that operate from Cusco airport. Taxis are available from some small stands inside the airport arrivals terminal and also outside the terminal in the car park. Prices vary from taxi to taxi, and often the first price that a taxi driver will offer is often 5 or 6 times more than a local would pay. From Inside Cusco Airport anywhere in the colonial center is between 6 and 10 Nuevo Soles, and taking a taxi from outside the airport on the main road is slightly less at 4 to 6 soles. Insiders Top Tip – Which Airline?
Which airline is the best? Well if we had to put them in order of preferred airlines, then it would go: LAN Peru, TACA Airlines, Star Peru, AeroSur then Peruvian Airlines. LAN Peru are a Chilean owned company, and fly the most modern fleet of aircraft. Star Peru and AeroSur offer slightly cheaper ticket rates, but the aircraft are typically much older. Tell us about your experiences!! Write an article on any airline and we shall publish it (good and bad!).
