Overview of Hotel

Location

La Cabaña Hotel is located near the top of Avenida Pachacutec, the main pedestrian street that runs through Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo). From the train station the hotel is 12- 15 minutes on foot and is all up-hill. From the hotel the main bus stop for access to Machu Picchu the walk is 6 – 7 minutes away. The hotel is well located for access to the thermal baths and also many of the tourist restaurants in town.

Our Thoughts!

Although La Cabaña Hotel markets itself as a fully-fledged 3 star hotel, we think it fits more comfortably into the category of a bed & breakfast. The hotel offers 20 rooms in various classes from entry level rooms through to suites. All rooms are ample in size, and include comfortable beds, a heater and safety deposit box. The ground floor of the hotel also doubles up as a restaurant in the evenings. There is a bar to the rear of the restaurant, which is open until 10pm.

On our last quality assessment of this hotel we felt that La Cabaña Hotel was falling somewhat short of what most foreign visitors to Peru would find acceptable for the price. In general the hotel looks out-dated and is in need of a good refurbishment. Although the rooms are ample in size, the décor lacks style making the rooms seem antiquated. The bathrooms, most of which have cheap looking purple sink and lavatory units just don’t cut the mustard when you are paying a US$150+ for a night’s stay. Like many old and un-loved buildings in Aguas Calientes, the real problem that the hotel suffers from is damp and mold, which was abundant in the main staircase area, where water was leaking in from the badly maintained roof.
