Overview

Forming part of the Rupa Wasi Hostel, the Tree House Restaurant is a small up-market restaurant located on a hidden back-street of Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo). The menu includes a selection of dishes dubbed “Peruvian Fusion,” that combines traditional ingredients and flavours from around Peru with classic international dishes. Camote Ravioli, Cuy (guinea-pig) confitado and a Thai chicken soup are a few examples of the tempting fusion cooking on offer. The small entrance of the Tree House Restaurant leads through a small patio before entering the restaurant. The restaurant which is decorated entirely of lightly coloured wooden panels, with wooden tables, chairs floors has a classy but relaxed atmosphere about it. The Tree House Restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and also can prepare a box lunch for your trip to Machu Picchu.

Our Thoughts

The Rupa Wasi Tree House Restaurant is a great place to eat in Aguas Calientes. It is leagues ahead of other run-of-the-mill places in Aguas Calientes, and offers a really appetizing menu that will appeal to most diners. The restaurant is a little difficult to find, and you may find the dark (and very steep) alleyway leading to the entrance a little intimidating. When we last ate there, we found the service to be good but a little overbearing. The waiter was so enthusiastic about the food on the menu, that he forgot to order the starter, which eventually arrived after the main course. Other than that major restaurant blunder, we couldn’t fault the food. Prices are a little high for Machu Picchu Pueblo, but as they say, you get what you pay for.
