Atlantic City Lima

If you are travelling to Lima and are looking for a flutter in a casino, you won’t be disappointed. Although we are not talking the Vegas strip, there are among a hand full of large casinos in the city, which offer all the traditional casinos games that you could need.

There are many imitation casinos that offer slot machines and such the like, but we can quickly narrow the real contenders down to just three. The Majestic (inside the Marriott Hotel), Fiesta Casino and The Atlantic City Casino. All three casinos are conveniently located in within the Miraflores district of Lima, and are within a short walking distance of each other.

THE ONLY PERU GUIDE TRAVEL TIP: Save money and stay safe when going to/from Lima Airport by using the Official Bus service inside the Airport called Airport Express Lima

The three above mentioned casinos are of high quality and are professionally run, so you don’t need to be worried about being taken out the back if you start winning money. The three casinos offer slots, roulette, black jack, Texas hold’em poker, Caribbean poker tables, baccarat and even bingo!

The winning hand

For those who want to play Texax Hold’em Poker in Lima, all three casinos offer nightly cash games, and regular tournaments. For cash games, it is best to arrive around 9pm, as the tables don’t really pick up until this time, but quickly fill up after 10pm. Buy ins vary depending on individual casinos and tables, but minimum buy ins are around 200 Soles (US $60). There are often many x-pats sat around the tables, but also many experienced and good Peruvian nationals, so take your time and gently settle on the table. Tournaments vary by casino, so it is best to drop past in the day time and ask which nights they are organized. Make sure to ask about the game rules before you sit down, including: buy ins, re-buys, blinds and starting chips. Be prepared to hand over 300 Soles (US $100) to enter into a poker tournament in Lima.

Make sure you ask about the free drinks and snacks that are available whilst seated at a gaming table. Often, there is a fuller main menu which you maybe entitled to if you have been at the table for more than two hours.

Cash machines or ATMs are located in all casinos, and credit cards are accepted (with passport) at cash desks. Casinos are open all night, but the action usually hots up after 9pm.

Although these casinos are located in Miraflores, which is considered to be a safe district, you must take care when leaving these establishments late at night, as opportunist crime is a possibility (even if you have lost all your money!).
