Airport Express Lima

Jorge Chavez airport runs 24/7 and is always bustling with locals and visitors. When leaving Lima airport or any airport can be an overwhelming experience if you do not speak the language or have transportation booked in advance. As soon as you come out of the arrivals terminal instantly you will be bombarded with taxi drivers trying to help with your bags. What makes matters slightly worse is the fact that Callao, the district where the airport is situated, is probably Lima’s most unsafe area. Needless to say, thousands pass through this airport every day.

Airport Express Lima is the official bus service that connects Lima Airport to the famous Miraflores District and nearby district of San Isidro all year round. Recognizing a divide in traveller needs for a more safe, reliable and cost effective form of transport to and from the airport, Airport Express Lima first buses started operating in March 2017.

The route & tickets

Airport Express Lima has 12 official stops within Miraflores and San Isidro and all stops are less than a 5 minute walk to the hundreds of hotels and hostels in Miraflores and San Isidro. The buses run every hour and if you have just missed a bus, get on the next bus and enjoy the free on-board Wi-Fi while you wait. Tickets can be pre-bought online with no extra fee or from inside the airport at an official ticket desk for $8 USD one-way (approx. 25 Peruvian soles), or $15 round-trip (approx. 48 Peruvian soles). Airport Express Lima have 2 ticket counters inside the airport, one at international arrivals and the other at domestic arrivals. Here tickets can be purchased with credit card (VISA or MASTERCARD) or in cash (SOLES, US DOLLARS)

Comfortable, safe & modern buses

To ensure the comfort and safety of all of their passengers, Lima Airport Express have some of the best buses in Peru. Buses are operated via their partners at DC Travel SA, a 10 year old award-winning Peruvian company famous for luxury bus travel and safety. All buses are Irizar branded and are replaced every 3 years to ensure they always have modern buses at their disposal. The buses are large 40 seater coaches with on-board TVs, toilets and reclining spacious seats. All their buses are equipped with free Wi-Fi, USB cable ports and TV’s to make your journey into Miraflores or San Isidro as easy as possible.

How much luggage can I take on the bus?

Luggage storage is vast and secure, everything that can be transported on the plane can be taken on the Airport Express Lima bus. Pets, guide dogs or assistant pets are allowed as long as they are in boxes or cages of appropriate sizes and they must travel in the storage area of the bus. How long is the journey?

When traffic is low and depending on weather conditions it can take approximately 45 minutes from Miraflores or San Isidro to the Airport. During peak hour however is can take as long as an hour or sometimes more. For international departures check in is recommended 3 hours before departure time and for domestic departures check in is recommended 2 hours before departure time.

I remember the first time I arrived at Lima Airport, now some 10 years ago. Although I was a seasoned traveller, I did feel fairly unnerved with the relentless onslaught of taxi drivers all fighting for my attention. I knew that taxis were considered unsafe in Lima, especially those operating from the Lima Airport / Callao area. Guide books also suggested taking a local bus to Miraflores or San Isidro from just outside the gates of the airport. Now knowing a lot more about Lima, and the risks of taking local buses (especially as an unsuspecting tourist), this was definitely bad advice from the guide books. Unfortunately, nothing much has changed over the last 10 years, and the airport still has the same aggressive taxi drivers touting for your business.

This new bus service is a no-brainer for any visitor arriving at Lima Airport. It is safe, has regular schedules, is clean and comfortable and is really good value. Best of all, you don’t have to deal with potentially unsafe taxi drivers. I highly recommend Airport Express Lima.
