Ancash is an interesting and varied area of Peru, located 291 miles 468 km’s) north of Lima, this region offers long sandy beaches on to the west, and high rugged mountains in the east. Located within The Huascarán National Park (UNESCO & World Heritage Site) is the highest summit in Peru and the second highest in The Americas. Mount Huascarán standing at 22,205 feet (6,768 meters) is a large attraction for hikers and mountaineers alike. Although still largely underdeveloped for general tourism, the area of Callejón de Huaylas north of Ancash is the main stopping point for many visitors.
